Our First Day
School begins Tuesday, September 2nd. I've been busy preparing the room and our curriculum. We have a great year planned.
There are few things that will be important for me to know on the first day:
1. Will your child be eating school lunch? Drinking school milk?
2. How is your child getting home?
3. Does your child know the answer to both one and two? :)
The question about dismissal is the most important. If you have not communicated this to me already, please send a note or let me know first thing Tuesday morning.
Forms
WARNING: You will be filling out more forms than you thought possible. The forms may seem redundant, but each and every form has a purpose. Please be patient and diligent in completing and returning them. I'm right there with you.
Thank you
This is my third year at South Pointe and the contributions from families consistently amazes me. I was overwhelmed by the amount of supplies we received on "Meet The Teacher Night." Thank you so much for your investment in your child's future.

Popsicles on the Playground & Blog photographs
Popsicles and Play on the Playground
We had a nice time during the Popsicles on the Playground event last week. No worries if you were not able to attend; we will see you soon. If you were there and I didn't snap your pictures (or you were sneaky and hid from the camera) I will get you next time.
Blog Photographs
If you prefer not to have photographs published on the blog, please let me know. I will get them down ASAP. I will be sending a photo release home on the first day of school.

Flashlight Reading
Flashlight Reading
Last year, one of the more fun ways of working on fluency and comprehension came when we had opportunities to 'flashlight read.' We covered windows with black paper and read along with an audio form of our story using a flashlight to highlight the words as they were read. Then we answered questions and found evidence for our answers. If you have an extra flashlight at home, please send it in with your child's name on it with their school supplies. I have several flashlights at school, so it is not a required supply. This is also something fun to try at home!

Welcome 2014-2015 2nd Graders!
I am so excited to be teaching 2nd Grade at South Pointe Scholars. We had a lot of fun on Move Up Day. I know we are going to have a great year.
New subscribers: Feel free to look around the blog. The menu on the right has some helpful links. I try to keep our classroom calendar up to date with summer bridge check-in dates and other school events.
Last year subscribers: I hope you are all having a nice summer. It has been nice running into some of you at summer school, summer camp, bridge book check ins. You are welcome to continue your subscription, BUT please read carefully...I am not sure when 3rd Grade is getting together.

Last Post of the 2013-2014 School Year
It has been such a pleasure teaching your children this past year. I know they are in good hands next year and that they are ready for 3rd Grade. I am so very proud of them. Their growth has definitely been a team effort. I enjoyed getting to know all of you as well.
Following are the links to the two skits we did at the end of the year. Thanks again to Mr. and Mrs. Koo for videotaping. The students did an outstanding job. I'm sorry for the delay.

This is the last post for our 2013-2014 school year. In July I will turn the blog over to a new group of students. You will probably want to unsubscribe so that you're not inundated with posts, but please keep in touch. Thank you again and again for sharing your 2nd Grader with me. :)
