Middle School Legends and Students of the Week

Students of the Week
Xavier was chosen as Student of the Week for Courage. Xavier takes risks with his writing and his math. He is always willing to write more and choose clever and unique ways to respond. He is not afraid to ask questions or to share his strategies. In February especially, he's went out of his way to offer to help his classmates and the teacher. Way to go Xavier!

Alivia was chosen as Student of the Week for Courage as well. Alivia is always up for any challenge. She may start a response with a shrug, smile and an "I don't know," but she consistently ends up solving the issue independently and with a thoughtful solution. She is also not afraid to stick up for others and help them stay on task without 'tattling.' We're very proud of you Alivia!

Middle School Students of the Week
We had a visit from Mrs. Anderson's class on Tuesday. The middle schoolers wrote tall tales about how South Pointe Scholars came to be. Our class loved listening to the tall tales and spending time with the 6th and 7th graders.

100th Day of School, 4th Grade Market Day

100th Day of School
We celebrated the 100th day of school by dressing like we were 100! We also did some activities and writing about the number 100. (Awesome photos curtesy of Ms. Hurn.)

4th Grade Market Day
We were lucky enough to get invited to the 4th Grade Market Day Showcase. We happen to have a lot of siblings in 4th grade.

Cool Art!

Cool Art
We have had a lot of fun working with Ms. Renko this year in art. Our last set of artwork was working with oil pastels. This week, we're working with clay to create very cool trees. Check these out!

Reading Groups, Ramps, Superheroes and Student of the Week

Reading Groups
We had a lot of time to work through our novels and chapter books in our small groups this week. (We did not have spelling or Reading Street due to Interims.) In small reading/literature groups, students work through vocabulary, comprehension, reading fluency, and cooperation.

Ramps
We had fun learning about force and motion this week. To end the unit, we created ramps and were challenged to make marbles and 'dragon tears': go fast, go slow, and change directions using friction and slope.

Superheroes and Students of the Week
Paige was chosen as the Student of the Week for perseverance. She perseveres and is patient with herself when faced with challenges. This is evident when she takes tests and when she works through difficult problems in math. Way to go, Paige!

Rahul was chosen for Student of the Week for courage. Rahul is very careful and thoughtful in all he does. When he takes risks, however, and challenges the content, classmates or the teacher, he leads our discussions into deeper level thinking. It takes courage to challenge others in a respectful way. Congratulations Rahul!

Shane was chosen as a Sheldon Superhero for consistently giving his best effort. He takes his time with his writing, reading responses and problem solving in math. He rarely gets discouraged and is always willing to help others. Well done, Shane!

Zaria was chosen as a Sheldon Superhero for her effort during Interims and for encouraging others. Zaria has a wonderful nature. Her focus during the Interims and her efforts to encourage others make our classroom a nice place to learn. Thanks, Zaria!
