Possible Date for a 2nd Grade Get together, Bridge Book Check-In Section 2, Uniform Order Information

Popsicles on the Playground
The 2nd Grade Team, Mrs. Warfield, Mrs. Wintersteller (formerly Ms. Morton) and I, have set August 8, 2013, as a tentative date for "Popsicles on the Playground~2nd Grade Style." Please pencil us in ~ we need to verify the date with the office ~ however, we fully expect to have the get-together on Thursday, August 8 from 5:30-6:30 at South Pointe Scholars.  We will plan to meet in the playground area, but we will move the event indoors if the weather does not cooperate.  The get-together will be a chance for the kids to play and for adults to talk.  Please be on the lookout for more information.

Summer Bridge Book Check-In (second of three)
The 2nd Summer Bridge Book Check-In is Tuesday, July 30th.  School staff will be available during two time blocks: 10:00-1:00 p.m. and 4:00-7:00 p.m.  This check-in will be at Heritage Park in Canton, Michigan, pavilion #3, which is behind the library just west of Canton Center Road. The pavilions are numbered and are near the playground on the south side of the park. I will be there from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Ordering Uniforms
I recently placed my order for school uniforms for my daughter through Image Builders.  If you order before August 1st, you can use the free shipping code (SOUTH).  I had mine mailed right to my home for free using the link provided by Mrs. Kouba and the South Pointe Scholars website.  You can also try it here: Image Builders South Pointe Scholars.

School supply list and book report forms

Ever had conversations like this?:
adult: What are you reading?
child: a book
adult: What is it about?
child: a kid
adult: what does the kid do?
child: things
adult: is it a good book?
child: sort of
adult: is there a moral to the story?
child: a mor-WHAT?
Here are two book report forms: fiction and nonfiction.  This will hopefully spark more interesting conversations.

The forms are NOT required, they are simply in response to a great question from a parent.  I realized on Move-up Day that our children love to read.  However, they may feel differently if they "have to read" and then "have to write about it."  Please keep reading fun, varied, and interesting.  Encourage your child to read a variety of books and genres.  Consider downloading the forms without printing them and simply using them as conversation starters.  Of course you can print them and suggest that they complete a portion of the page each time they read.  Have fun!  No pressure.

I have also added a new page to our blog.   You can access it through the "forms and lists" link on the right side menu.  Through it, you will be able to access book report forms, the Barnes and Noble summer reading journal (provided by your child's first-grade teacher in June) and a school supply list.

I am still considering a time and date for us to meet for fun as a class.  I will be in touch soon.  Thanks!

Summer Bridge Book Check-In

The Summer Bridge Book Check-In events (11-2 and 4-7 p.m.) at City Park were successful despite the rain and thunder.  If you were not able to attend, please do not worry.  There will be two other check-in dates.  If the weather interrupted your plans to attend and you are concerned about it, please let me know via email.  I will do my best to help.

The conversations I had with parents sparked a few ideas.  I will be working on three things: 1. a date to get together as a class this summer just for fun, 2. a specific school supply list for our class, (if you have the pre-printed one; that's fine.) and 3. a book report form that students can use independently for their summer reading.

I have updated the blog calendar.  Feel free to scroll through each month for dates such as orientation and parent-teacher conferences.  Have a great week!
Recognize either of these two South Pointe Panthers?
